Mapping of Waste Pickers and Organizations Supporting Waste Pickers in Kenya
This summary study report provides an overview of solid waste picker activities in Kenya. Many waste pickers belong to vulnerable groups: recent migrants, the unemployed, the disabled, women, children, and the elderly. They survive in a hostile social environment, often rejected by the society, and subjected to a range of practical challenges and indignities. They work on the streets and in open dumps, where daily contact with all kinds of waste – including hazardous and
medical waste – poses risks to their health and personal safety.
