This policy brief explores how community paralegal programmes can enhance domestic workers’ access to justice by bridging the gap between workers and formal legal systems. It defines what community paralegals are, outlines the services they provide—from legal education and mediation to advocacy and community organizing—and discusses how these models can be adapted to support domestic worker organizations. Drawing on examples from countries such as South Africa, Namibia, Togo, Guinea Conakry, and Zimbabwe, the publication highlights how paralegals can help overcome barriers related to legal awareness, enforcement, and affordability, promoting long-term empowerment and rights protection for domestic workers.
