Informal Workers in Chile: A Statistical Profile
WIEGO’s latest Statistical Brief, Informal Workers in Chile: A Statistical Profile, provides insight into the impact COVID-19 and the pandemic response have had on workers and levels on employment and informality in a developed country.
The COVID-19 crisis brought great changes to employment in Chile. While both total employment and informal employment declined, the six groups of workers that are the focus of this brief grew in numbers and in their share of total employment: from 21 per cent of employment in 2019 to 28 per cent in 2020. The largest contributing factor was that office-based workers became home-based workers.
