- Subtitle: WIEGO Working Paper No. 8
This paper interrogates the nature of the informal economy in Greater Buenos Aires. It takes advantage of the existence of a unique dataset, the Informal Labour Module (ILM), which was collected in 2005.
In part, the ILM characterized informal employment, particularly through tackling the extent and reasons of wage employment; understanding the various ways in which the formality of the production unit relates to the formality of employment, ultimately informing the debate and policy on informal employment in Argentina.
Through an analysis of this data, the paper constructs a comprehensive profile of informal employment in the city of Buenos Aires and its surrounding areas.
