WIEGO y StreetNet International are hosting an event to launch research which reveals that street vendors across Latin America face a systemic pattern of repression which equates to human rights violations.
The event, held on March 11 at 5pm, will present findings from four policy briefs done as part of a regional study of vendors’ working conditions in Guatemala, Honduras, Brazil and Argentina. They detail how market and street vendors across Latin America face not only administrative conflicts and evictions, but also restrictive regulatory frameworks, confiscations and exclusion from social protection. The struggles vendors face at work are human rights issues, not just everyday challenges of running a business.
The studies were undertaken with technical assistance from the International Institute for Social Responsibility and Human Rights (IIRESODH) and in collaboration with affiliates from StreetNet International.
