Working People and Access To Social Protection

By on January 01, 2006

The failure of orthodox economic models to generate growth and eradicate poverty has led to a renewed interest in social policy and social institutions. While there is enormous debate on the scope and values of social policy, gender has been the silent term in these debates. This book, edited by Shahra Razavi and Shireen Hassim, illustrates why both academic research and policy thinking need to factor-in gender hierarchies and structures if they are to address some of the key challenges of contemporary societies: the widespread informality and insecurity of paid work and the crisis of care. WIEGO's Francie Lund contributed the chapter on working people and access to social protection.
