Estimating Domestic Workers, Home-Based Workers, Street Vendors and Waste Pickers in India
As part of an analysis commissioned by WIEGO, this note describes the methods of estimating the numbers of domestic workers, home-based workers, street vendors, and waste pickers using three rounds of the Surveys of Employment and Unemployment in India, the 55th round in 1999-2000, the 61st round in 2004-5 and the 66th round in 2009-10. Recommendations for improving the identification of these workers in India are provided at the end. These recommendations are relevant more broadly.
