Marty Chen, WIEGO Senior Advisor, spoke to 30 Spanish civil society leaders as part of a Global Civil Society Seminar organized by the Harvard Kennedy School and the Rafael del Pino Foundation of Spain

Marty's talk, “Global Social Movements of the Urban Poor: Mobilizing for Inclusive Cities”, focused on four parts: social challenge, social movements, social innovation and social transformation. She defined social transformation as inclusive cities which recognize, validate and support slum/shack dwellers and informal workers.

The talk focused on WIEGO and the global movement of informal workers, and featured the work of Slum Dwellers International and WIEGO in promoting policy dialogues between the urban poor and local government and facilitating delegations of urban poor leaders to global forums.
