Monitoramento de eventos climáticos extremos e impactos no trabalho de catadores de materiais recicláveis (MCTC)

When a recycling cooperative’s warehouse floods or the heat inside becomes unbearable, it’s not only recycling that comes to a halt. Workers lose income, their health is put at risk, and the work of thousands of waste pickers becomes even more vulnerable.

This WIEGO Policy Brief invites readers to understand climate change through the lived experiences of waste pickers in Brazil. Drawing on monitoring carried out in cooperatives and associations across six Brazilian cities, the publication turns workers’ own experiences into evidence that can inform fairer public policies that protect both people and the recycling systems that cities depend on.
