Home-based workers, workers in informal employment and urban planning in the Global South, street vendors and domestic workers in India
Shalini provides thought leadership and content generation support to the Urban Policies Programme on issues related to home-based work, including the effects of climate change on workers’ livelihoods and habitat. Shalini also contributes to strengthening WIEGO’s presence and partnerships in Asia by expanding WIEGO’s knowledge base and identifying innovative work and potential partnerships in the region.
Shalini has contributed to the design and implementation of projects on home-based workers and supported networks of home-based workers for two decades. Her extensive writing articulates home-based workers’ issues, advocating for an inclusive urban planning and city development approach.
Shalini led WIEGO’s Delhi Focal Cities programme for seven years, during which she supported membership-based organizations of workers in their capacity building and advocacy efforts at the city/state level.
Before joining WIEGO, she worked as a development consultant for several national and international organizations and is intimately familiar with the informal economy landscape in India and South Asia.
Shalini is based in New Delhi and has a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Delhi.
