WIEGO Strongly Condemns Violent Assault of Reclaimers Near Genesis Landfill

WIEGO's response to the attacks on waste pickers who work at the Genesis Landfill in Johannesburg in June 2018. The atttacks, in which reclaimers homes were raided and workers injured -- at least 15 hopitalized, 4 in serious condition -- were carried out by a private security force. WIEGO calls on organised workers in South Africa and internationally to stand in solidarity against the multinational Averda's employment of brute force against the Genesis landfill reclaimers.
