Climate & Waste Pickers Bulletin, issue nº 3
The Climate & Waste Pickers Bulletin summarizes the findings of monitoring activities carried out to identify and document the impacts of extreme weather events on the workspaces of cooperatives and waste pickers in Brazil.
In this edition, the bulletin highlights the consequences of the heavy rains that hit the city of Salvador, in northeastern Brazil, in May 2025, directly affecting the cooperatives CAEC, CANORE, and COOPERBARI. The main impacts observed include flooding, water infiltration, increased risk of landslides, equipment losses, and production shutdowns. There were also reported losses in material sales, worker absences, and income reduction. The bulletin shows how extreme events, which are becoming increasingly frequent, worsen existing vulnerabilities and reinforce the urgency of public climate adaptation policies with social justice.
