The Regulation of Street Trade in Plumtree: Opportunities and Challenges for Improving Vendors’ Livelihoods
The experiences of street vendors in Plumtree, Zimbabwe, are examined in this datasheet, which is targeted at council leaders and officials. Street vendors in Plumtree provide essential goods and services in convenient locations and at affordable prices. However, most work informally and face many livelihood challenges. ZCIEA is working with WIEGO and StreetNet International to strengthen dialogue between street vendors and town councils by drawing on two legal tools: Administrative Justice and the ILO’s Recommendation No. 204. The project looked at why vendors in Plumtree work informally, their challenges and ways to address them. An accompanying document to this datasheet was prepared in Ndebele for workers.
