Extending Social Protection to Workers in the Informal Economy
This resource brings together new evidence, policy analysis and innovations on extending social protection to workers in informal employment. It curates briefs, case studies, resource documents, working papers, advocacy tools and other research that collectively show what inclusive, rights‑based and sustainable social protection systems can look like in practice. The objective is to equip policymakers, worker organizations, researchers and other stakeholders with concrete pathways for reform, ranging from rights‑based formalization and legislative innovation to fair financing mechanisms, registration systems, social dialogue strategies and new forms of social insurance. It also highlights emerging issues such as digitalization and labour‑market impacts, and provides accessible learning tools like an online course and podcast channel.
