WIEGO and the Royal Academy of Engineering are calling for expressions of interest for their upcoming symposium on community-led circular solutions for inclusive climate action.

It will take place from 30 September to 2 October 2026 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and bring together leading researchers, innovators and practitioners to explore how more inclusive and equitable circular economy transitions can be achieved.

Attendees will explore three main sub-themes: participation, decision-making and climate governance in circular systems, community-led circular ecosystems and innovation, and the enabling conditions, finance and resilient productive systems for the circular economy.

They will also highlight the solutions and innovation of indigenous peoples, workers in the informal economy, and local communities. Following the event, seed funding grants worth £20,000 over one year will be awarded to successful collaborations developed via the symposium.

WIEGO and the Royal Academy of Engineering call for a diverse range of experts from different disciplines, and from around the world. Participants will have their travel, accommodation and subsistence costs covered during the event.

Those seeking to attend should complete an expression of interest by 17 August 2026. Applications will be reviewed and evaluated on a rolling basis.

WIEGO will be co-organizing the symposium as a chair of the Circular Economy Thematic Chamber of Brazil’s Climate Change Forum (Fórum Brasileiro de Mudança do Clima in Portuguese). The Ellen MacArthur Foundation, ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, and Instituto Clima e Sociedade (Institute Climate and Society), will also be engaged as working group partners.
