2025 has been designated by the United Nations as the International Year of Cooperatives. As part of the year-round celebrations, join us for a webinar co-organized by WIEGO and ILO Coops, where we will explore global experiences aimed at creating a more just world of work.

On July 3 at 15:00 CET, we will discuss practical examples that illustrate how the social and solidarity economy—an economic model based on solidarity and collective action—can advance the rights and improve the livelihoods of workers in informal employment. The webinar will also highlight the relevance of the recent Resolution on innovative approaches to formalization, adopted by the International Labour Conference in June 2025 – ten years after the adoption of the Recommendation 204 on Transitions from the Informal to the Formal Economy.

Key discussion topics will include:

  • Experiences from cooperatives and other entities within the social solidarity economy that address the needs and rights of workers in informal employment;
  • Case studies from worker organizations in Argentina, Colombia, India and Nigeria that demonstrate pathways to formalization;
  • Opportunities for knowledge sharing and dialogue between the ILO and networks of workers in informal employment.
