Domestic workers around the world face a decent work deficit that is due to exclusions from labour laws, the low value associated with the work, and uneven employer-employee relationships. Lack of empowerment and access to justice limit their ability to challenge violations and realize their rights. Community paralegals - community members trained to provide legal assistance and other legal services- could be an effective tool to respond to domestic workers’ legal needs. This brief presents the key characteristics of community paralegals and discusses the role they can play to foster domestic workers' legal empowerment and access to justice.
