Street traders represent one of the largest and most visible segments of the informal economy, yet the actual number of street traders working is, for the most part, unknown.
Local governments need accurate data on street traders in order to formulate appropriate, effective policies. Street trading organizations require information to support their advocacy efforts. This technical brief presents guidelines for planning and implementing accurate street trader censuses.
