Many employment arrangements today do not fit easily within the existing International Classification of Status in Employment (ICSE-93) either because they sit ambiguously between paid employment and self-employment, or because they require greater detail, such as the creation of a new category or sub-category.

Considerations for Revision of the International Classification of Status in Employment - ICSE-93

This brief presents the challenges in accurately identifying these forms of employment in data collection, and possible approaches to address the challenges.  These  issues are being considered by the International Labor Organization and a tripartite working group, of which WIEGO as a member.  This work will result in a proposal for revision of the ICSE which will be reviewed by the 20th International Conference of Labour Statisticians in 2018.

This brief is part of the WIEGO Publication Series.
