At COP31, Parties Must Centre Workers in Informal Employment in Global Climate Action and Just Transition Pathways

By on

This WIEGO statement calls on COP31 parties to centre workers in informal employment, including waste pickers, street vendors, domestic workers, and home-based workers, in global climate action and just transition pathways. It welcomes the Belem-Antalya Mechanism (BAM) agreed at COP30 and urges its governance and operationalization to explicitly include informal economy workers and their organizations. The statement makes concrete recommendations across three areas: a worker-centred just transition, zero-waste and circular economy solutions, and building climate-resilient cities.
