On September the 29th the launch of the first payment to Popayan waste pickers as providers of public recycling services took place in Popayan, Colombia. Federico Parra, WIEGO’s Waste Picker Coordinator for Latin America, and Maria Eugenia Duque, Bogota Recyclers Association adviser, attended the event.

The first payment waste pickers from Popayan are getting from the municipality is the result of a long struggle for inclusion of these informal workers on the waste collection system, and the first payment made outside the Colombian capital.
