International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF)

The International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) is a membership-based global organization of domestic and household workers. IDWF was launched in October 2013.  IDWF’s objective is to build a strong, democratic and united domestic/household workers’ global organization to protect and advance domestic workers’ rights everywhere. Other objectives include to assist in the organization of domestic workers' unions where they do not yet exist; to serve as a clearing house for the exchange of information; to organize mutual support and solidarity; to advance common political aims (international standards, national legislation); to represent domestic workers at the international level; and to secure the support of the wider labor movement for each of these objectives.

As of July 2016, IDWF has 59 affiliates in 47 countries, representing over 500,000 members.  Most of these are trade unions and others are associations and workers co-ops.
