This case study examines negotiations between the Waste Pickers National Movement (Movimento Nacional dos Catadores de Reciclᶥis), or MNCR and the state of Minas Gerais. The objective of the bargaining, which has been ongoing since 2001, is the demand that waste picking be recognized as a service provided to the State thus entitling the providers (waste pickers) to regular payment.
This case study is one in a set of five case studies examining collective bargaining by informal workers.
