Carbon Finance for Waste Picker Organizations

Some waste picker organizations are interested in earning income from the sale of carbon credits in order to improve their personal and collective circumstances. However, many issues affect how realistic pursuing this source of income is for an organization.

This 4-page resource examines the feasibility and requirements of accessing carbon finance through three sources: 1) the UNFCCC Clean Development Mechanism (CDM); 2) Voluntary Carbon Markets (in particular the Gold Standard); and  3) the Green Climate Fund.
