Informal Workers and Collective Bargaining: Five Case Studies

This brief summarizes the findings of a set of case studies of collective bargaining by informal workers in five different countries. Included are examples of collective bargaining by waste pickers in Brazil, domestic workers in Uruguay, street traders in Liberia, bidi workers in India, and minibus drivers in Georgia.

Thematic discussion on the individual cases uncovers recurring themes across sector groups and countries. This brief offers a valuable contribution to the limited literature that exists on bargaining by informal workers.
