    THE DATABASE
Welcome to the WIEGO interactive data base of organizations organizing worker in the informal economy!

    Use the data base to:
  • share up-to- date information on your organization or organizations you know of
  • make contact with organizations
  • carry out research on organizations

For each organization you can view and download contact details, information about the type of organization and membership, and on its activities, strategies and structures.

This information comes directly from organizations, and from web sites and documents. For some organizations it may be incomplete, outdated or inaccurate. We hope that organizations and individuals concerned with improving the situation of informal workers will help us develop this resource collectively. Please join us in making this data base an accurate, up-to-date and useful resource.

    You can contact WIEGO here.

    Using the data base
Please make sure you have cookies and popups enabled on your browser.

To begin, click 'Browse records' or 'Search on a record' in the lefthand panel. 'Browse records' will display all the current records in the database in the righthand, browser, panel; 'Search for a record' will allow you to select records from the database by various criteria - notably, name, location, and groups of workers represented. The search results will appear in the browser panel.

Clicking on any organization's name in the panel will open a summary view. Click on 'Full record' at the bottom of the summary view to open a full record for that organization. Click the 'back' button to return to the previous screen (your browser's back button will not work).

The summary screen allows you to scroll backwards and forwards through the records (use the « and » controls).

Ordinary users may send an e-mail to any organization with an e-mail address in the database by clicking on the 'Click here to send e-mail' link in the summary or full record for that organization.

Any user may download an Excel spreadsheet file for any group of organizations displayed. Check the boxes next to the fields or columns you wish to add to your spreadsheet and click 'submit'. You may then download the spreadsheet by clicking on the 'download' link in order to view it in a spreadsheet program or save it (to avoid viewing a cached version of a file, save the new file before viewing it). The file will be called 'outfile.csv', and if you are saving more than one of these files on your computer, you will need to rename each before downloading the next.

If you are registered on the site as an 'organization user', you may notify WIEGO of any changes you wish to make to your record, through the link in the welcome message in the lefthand panel when you have logged in.

To register as an organization user, click the link at the foot of the lefthand panel ('Register as an organization user'). You will need to supply the following details: your name, the name of your organization, and an e-mail address. Once your registration has been accepted, you will be sent a username and password by e-mail. If you have no e-mail address, please register with one of the free webmail services such as Hotmail, G-Mail or Yahoo.
