Ela BhattEla Bhatt, a longtime advocate for women in India, told students graduating from the Georgetown University Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) today that poverty is “a form of violence perpetuated with the consent of the society” that cannot be eradicated without empowerment. Bhatt was awarded an honorary degree from Walsh SFS, a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa. In the same week she was also awarded an honorary Doctorate from L’Université Libre de Bruxelles.
