StreetNet was conceived through a network of individuals and institutions concerned with increasing the visibility, voice and bargaining power of street vendors throughout the world. The network includes vendors, activists, lawyers and researchers.

Focal point of action: The Bellagio International Declaration of Street Vendors
Drafted by Alliance founders in 1995, this declaration sets forth a plan to create national policies to promote and protect the rights of street vendors, and calls for action at four other levels, by:

individual traders
traders associations
city governments
international organizations
