Towards a Domestic Work Convention: ILO Process, Timetable and Documents

The International Labour Office (hereafter Office) sent a law and practice report along with a questionnaire to ILO. Member States Governments have to consult with workers’ organizations and employers’ associations.

First Discussion and Vote at the June 2010 ILC

A decision was taken on the form of the draft ILO instrument(s) at the International Labour Conference (ILC) - whether a Convention or a Recommendation Conference of the ILO or both. Decision was to have a Convention.

August 2010

The Office sent a third report containing (a) draft instrument(s) to Member States, the final version of which was sent to Member States in March 2011 (see below).

November 2010

Deadline for submission of comments to the Office on the third report by Member States.

March 2011

The Office sent two reports to Member States: one examining the replies received on the third report, and the other containing the text of the draft instrument(s) revised in the light of comments received.

Final Discussion and Vote at the June 2011 ILC

A Convention and recommendation was discussed and adopted by the ILC on June 16th, 2011.
