WIEGO Dashboard - Statistics

WIEGO has a core programme dedicated to improving measurement of informal employment at the country-level and city-level. Not every country has data represented on this database; only the cities listed below have data.

From a policy perspective, it is important to distinguish which component of informal employment is larger: self-employment or wage employment; employment within the informal sector (i.e. in unincorporated, unregistered or small enterprises) or employment outside the informal sector (i.e. employment without social protection in households or formal firms) – for women and men. It is important to have data on specific groups of informal workers such as domestic workers, street vendors, home-based workers and waste pickers, who are often hidden in official statistics.

To explore Statistics for key indicators of informal employment, start by selecting the country/region.
